Sponsored by the Ford Foundation, Beijing Gender Health Education Institute (GHE) called on researchers from different fields to compile Ecological Report in the Chinese Homosexual Population (Part I).  After one year and a half’s preparation, now that proofing and format design have finished, the book will finally meet its readers.

This is the basic research outcome that GHE achieved for the first time through organizing experts in different fields to work collectively.

To ensure the quality of this comprehensive basic research, the Consultation Center invited related experts to offer their suggestions and recommendations on working approaches, plans and topic selection, after obtaining the support from the Ford Foundation for the plan.

As suggested by lots of people, the editorial committee was made up of Tong Ge, He Xiaopei, Guo Yaqi, Cui Zien, Mao Yanling and Guo Xiaofei and rcooperation Union of Vennu Ownersfor Male Health nsible for the writing section of the report

After the discussion within the editorial committee, at first, over ten topics were included in the report, that is, legal environment, public health policies, media, homosexual literature, homosexual movies and arts, living conditions of female homosexuals, formation and development of homosexual communities and activities, entertainment places, homosexual websites, development of volunteers’ organization in homosexual communities, homosexuals on campus, living conditions of overseas Chinese homosexuals, transgender subtype, etc. Meanwhile, the committee began to choose and invite experienced researchers to work on the related topics.

Many problems have shown up sine the compilation work started.  For instance, some of the writers that we had planned to invite rejected our invitation due to their heavy workload, so we had to look for others; though some writers showed great interest in one topic in the beginning, once they set about to work, they found out that they didn’t know how to do research on them and hence can’t make sure of their qualities, which meant that they can’t finish these topics; some writers quit for some reasons when their drafts needed refining; and a few articles that some writers handed in can’t meet our quality demands, etc.

To solve the foregoing problems, the editorial committee made timely adjustments.  New writers were invited.  Guo Yaqi was asked to take charge of contacting with writers and pressing them for articles so as to meet the working schedules.  Tong Ge was asked to take charge of adjusting topics, correcting articles, collecting accessory data and editing.  Both of them were rcooperation Union of Vennu Ownersfor Male Health nsible to organize GHE staffs to collect related materials required by writers.  Some topics were revised many times after their discussions with the writers.

Now, with thirteen topics and over 10,000 words, Ecological Report in the Chinese Homosexual Population (Part I) will be published soon.  It came out of efforts of all the people involved.  We believe that the report not only shows the feature of subjective construction of sexual minority for joining in academic research, but also provides rich and in-depth materials that people may don’t know for domestic researches on sexuality and sexual minority.
