On May 27th 2008, under the support and sponsorship of the UN MSM and HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Technique Workgroup, altogether with the assistance of the National CDC, and the CDC institutions of Jiangsu province and Suzhou City, held by the Chinese SD and HIV/AIDS Prevention Organization, the GHE and the Suzhou Rainbow Volunteer Group undertook a conference, launching “Advocacy of AIDS prevention of MSM Participated by Venue Owners and Operators”Delegates of Venue Owners and Operators from more than 20 cities around the country, representatives of 5 homosexual websites and 3 condom manufacturers, volunteer delegates of MSM communities in 4 cities, joined with experts from various fields and governmental officers, attended the in-depth discussion of the 2 day meeting.
Mr.Edmund Settle, a UNDP official and the director of the UN MSM and HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Technique Workgroup, and Mr.Tong Ge, a famous gay scholar, writer and the BJHEI chief expert, presided over the opening ceremony. The objective and task of the conference was earnestly introduced by Mr.Edmund Settle.
Long long, a director of the Suzhou Rainbow Volunteer Group and the proprietor of the “Deep Breath” bar, gave a warm welcoming speech to all the conventioneers.
Mr.Zhang Guocheng(the director of the National CDC VD Control Centre), Ms.Liu Tingting( the program official of ILO Chinese Office), and Mr.Tong Ge respectively made specific reports on the VD/AIDS dissemination among the domestic MSM group, the international COOPERATION UNION OF VENNU OWNERSFOR MALE HEALTH mediation and cooperation mechanism, and the background, purpose and launching of the conference.
In the form of collective and separate team discussion, the conference focused on the importance and necessity of entertainment sites’ and homosexual websites’ involvement and partnership in HIV/AIDS prevention amongst the MSM group, the method to promote condom application, the policy environment and indication, and precise amendment suggestion for the drafting of the “movement proposal”.
Practical experience of civilian organizations and Venue Owners and Operators delegates was also introduced during the session. Experts and officials attending the conference took part in the discussion as well, and offered constructive advice.
It was concluded that the encouragement, mobilization, organization and assistance for COOPERATION UNION OF VENNU OWNERSFOR MALE HEALTH and website owners constituted the feasible and advanced experience attained from the international practice in HIV/AIDS prevention and control, which had already become the oriented policy to stimulate and guide social participation on the international plane. After serious discussion, conventioneers decided to initiate a movement proposal towards nationwide Venue Owners and Operators relevant government departments, international and civilian organizations, based on the agreement and suggestion formulated through the conference.
Now, the proposal has still sought advice from any other aspects.
During the session, several Venue Owners and Operators after positive negotiation, called upon to establish an nationwide cooperation mechanism for Venue Owners and Operators participation in HIV/AIDS prevention amongst the MSM group, which would provide information service, the experience exchange platform, industry coordination and the channel for opinion expression.
