Chief of GHE Guo Yaqi Gave Lectures on AIDS Prevention for M

In the Training Class for Skills of the Outreach Intervention and Peer Education of Global Fund Round 6 China AIDS Program, held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province from September 17 to 21, 2008, Guo was invited to lecture on and exchange his opinions on topics like “Content and approaches of peer education” and “Safe sex and condom use of MSM communities”.

 

At the invitation of Chinese Association of STD&AIDS Prevention and Control, Guo gave a lecture on Ways, Approaches and Experiences of Intervention amongst MSM communities in the Teacher Training Class for Intervention among MSM and FSW Communities, held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province from September 23 and 24, 2008.  Non-governmental organizations, from seven cities--Beijing, Tianjin, Xi’an, Nanjing, Qingdao, Wuhan and Kunming—which are engaged in Sino-Gates AIDS Program of Chinese Association of STD&AIDS Prevention and Control, attended the training.  The training aimed at improving project executive forces of administerial and implementary agencies in provinces and cities.

 

At the invitation of Heilongjiang branch of Red Cross Society of China, Guo conducted training on skills of the outreach services and peer education for volunteers from Harbin, Qiqihar and Kiamusze, etc in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, on September 30, 2008.  The training was a part of AIDS program of Heilongjiang branch of Red Cross with the support of Red Cross of the Netherlands.

 

On October 17 and 18, 2008, together with leaders and doctors from Shenzhen Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, Guo provided technical support for STD and AIDS prevention amongst MSM communities in Dermatology Hospital of Guangdong , Jiangmen.  With the help of volunteers from Guangzhou and Shenzhen, Guo also held a training class for volunteers and medical staff engaged in MSM intervention in Jiangmen city.  During the training, Professor Liu Hui from NCAIDS and Professor Yang Ligang from Guang Dong Provincial Center for Skin Decease and STD Control were invited to introduce related knowledge and information.  Besides, in a participatory manner, Guo helped attendees to communicate with and learn from each other on the skills required for intervention amongst target groups, which achieved satisfactory effects and laid foundations for propagation and intervention of STD and AIDS amongst local MSM communities.

 

At the invitation of CDC of Jiangsu Province, Guo gave a lecture on Homosexual Culture and Behavioral Intervention Skills for MSM Communities in the training courses of Jiangsu Province for Strategies and Skills for Behavioral Intervention of AIDS in Nanjing on October 31, 2008.  Lecturers of the training courses also included Professor Wang Ning, Vice Director of NCAIDS, Professor Pan Suiming of Renmin University and Ms. Yan Yuelian from Hong Kong Ziteng Organization.

 

On November 26 and 27, 2008, a Training Class for Capacity Building of Non-governmental Organizations on AIDS Prevention and Control was held in Shanghai by Sino-Gates AIDS Program of China Preventive Medicine Association (CPMA).  Program officials of CPMA in Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Hainan, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Haikou, Sanya, etc and representatives from some NGO and grass-root organizations attended the training.  The training focused on topics like AIDS prevalence, strategies, laws and regulations for prevention and control of AIDS, intervention, consultation and detection of target groups, support for and comprehensive management of HIV-positive individuals, project management and composition of project proposals, etc.  Attendees gave introduction to their programs, shared their working experiences and had discussions on difficulties NGO of Sino-Gates programs have encountered and possible solutions.  Guo Yaqi, Chief of GHE, was invited by CPMA to give a lecture on the Outreach Services and Intervention amongst MSM
